Just a small point Paul: an estimated 15.7 million to over 17 million trees were felled in Scotland between 2000 and 2024 to make way for wind farm developments, primarily on land managed by Forestry and Land Scotland (FLS). The space is there, it's just a question of do you want to ship composite non-recyclable windmills from dirty energy China across the world, chop down millions of trees, use huge amounts of concrete to embed them, run diesel generators to start them up and use large amounts of oil to keep them going and then landfill them, or, have a 100% natural carbon cycle with the trees. My vote goes with the trees and local fossil fuels and nuclear for the energy.

Most politics is a little team game event, "ok Surrey Tories, we're playing the Basingstoke Labour Party this week, go in hard on inflation." Thucydides reported far more rational debates around the Peloponnesian War than anything we see in our modern Parliaments.

That does seem to be how Richard Tice approaches it. Scoring political points trumps scientific accuracy.

Paul, it's how all of them approach it. Do you really think Red Ed Milliband has a deep appreciation of climate science or an honest bone in his body?

Paul Jenkins's avatar

Why do you say "Red"? Ed Miliband is not a scientist but he has scientific advisers, including climate scientists, and I would hope he listens to them and isn't so arrogant that he thinks he knows better than them on their fields of expertise.

Ed is a Fabian Society card carrier, he's a "useful idiot" on the downward slope to communism. I do not believe he has a solid critical thinking bone in his body, he's bought into the net-zero thing from both self interest and an idealogical team belief system and he surrounds himself by fellow cult members. I personally have multiple fields of expertise but that does not mean you should accept my views without examining the evidence for yourself.
